HELP US DELIVER BETTER DATA IN HEALTHCARE📉

At Ribbon Health, we’ve simplified healthcare by building a data asset, distributed through our API layer, which enables us to provide incredibly accurate data across the entire healthcare ecosystem. The reason that’s important is that there are thousands of different places where healthcare decisions are being made, and Ribbon is plugged into every one of those segments, with the goal of powering every healthcare decision to be high quality, cost-effective, and convenient for both patients and doctors.

VALUES THAT KEEP US BALANCED ⚖️

Run towards hard problems
We are motivated by the toughest challenges. We seek out hard problems that have the most impact and solve them to help those who need it most.

Put your team first
We are a family. We are all happier and healthier when we take care of each other and put each other’s needs ahead of our own.

Do what you say
We are honest with each other. We are accountable to each other.

Stay hungry, keep improving
We are humble. We will make mistakes, learn from those mistakes, and be better because of those mistakes.

Practice habits of excellence
We measure our success by the process it took to get there. We will always do our very best and we are proud of the outcome because of it.

Build with empathy
We are building the best healthcare experience for our users. When faced with a difficult decision, we do what’s best for people’s lives.

WHY DE&I IS A PRIORITY TO RIBBON HEALTH 💜

Ribbon Health views diversity as a group of people with differences across race, gender identity, sexual orientation, educational background, cultural background, and physical abilities.

We believe it is important for two primary reasons:

1) we can not learn and grow as individuals if we only work with people from similar backgrounds

2) we are building a product meant to improve care decisions for all Americans; without a representative group of people working on this product, we do not believe we can deliver on our mission.

We are practicing diversity by actively recruiting talented Black, Latinx, and LGBTQ candidates for roles across our team.

Equity at Ribbon means the promotion of fairness, justice, and opportunity across our policies, ensuring that every person has the support they deserve to grow and develop at Ribbon.

It’s important because not only are we employing people of diverse and less-privileged backgrounds, we are also making sure that they have equitable opportunities, roles and responsibilities of those who come from more privileged backgrounds. If our goal is to have Ribbon be a representation of society, then it’s also on us to shape the type of society that we all believe should exist, one of equity and equal opportunity.

For our team, we practice equity through defined compensation bands, “first and final” compensation offers to ensure equal pay, fact-based reviews and standardized interview processes, clear and fact-based development pathing, and standard leveling across the organization.

For our product, we are working with non-profit organizations and companies supporting underserved communities so we can learn how to best support them with needed infrastructure and information, and to ensure we are truly powering care decisions everywhere - not just for those with resources.

Inclusion at Ribbon means that every teammate can feel comfortable and supported, and that no one person will feel singled out, disadvantaged, or looked down on.

To develop an inclusive environment at Ribbon, we anchor on our core values to foster psychological safety on our team. We hold each other accountable with feedback and are each committed to continual improvement in how we support one another as our team grows.

We practice inclusivity through open discussions of all new employee’s working norms in what we call a “Norms Lunch”. In the first 2 weeks of every new employee’s time at Ribbon, they will write up a summary of their working/problem-solving style, motivators, stressors, preference for how they are given feedback, as well as their lifestyle (night-owl/early-riser, etc.), and share it with their team. This serves as a guideline for how to approach that person, and maintains an incredibly thoughtful and empathetic environment that promotes our team members’ health and happiness.

BRING YOUR WHOLE SELF TO WORK 👩🏾‍🦱🧑🏽‍🦱👩🏼

We ensure that our company is a safe place for employees of all backgrounds through a variety of ways. We hold a bi-weekly DEI meeting in order to go over our current DEI goals, various team members’ DEI work streams, as well as ideate on ways we can improve our DEI initiatives. This forum is a safe space for our team members from underrepresented groups to express their opinions. We also hold monthly anonymous ‘Pulse’ surveys, so that employees can express their opinions safely and anonymously.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM LEADERSHIP 🤝

Ribbon sets full company objectives and key results (OKRs) informed by every team and teammate. We prioritize these objectives and key results for each quarter, and use this framework to set individual development and business goals. This process adds transparency around priorities so each Ribbon teammate understands how their work directly impacts our company’s success.

To ensure transparency around our collective progress toward our OKRs and each individual’s progress toward goals, we hold monthly check-ins and a formal review every 6 months.

To support employee health and happiness, we work hard to normalize work-life integration. We encourage our team members to create blocks in their day for events in their personal life (i.e. working out, lunch, doctor’s appointments, volunteering time, family time, etc..) to normalize work-life integration across the company. Our leadership team encourages this integration by sharing openly when taking time off for such blocks and being respectful to others by not pinging them during their time away for such blocks. By setting that example, we empower the rest of our team to do the same.

WE'RE COMMITTED TO BUILDING A COMPANY AND PRODUCT WITH INTENTION👩🏾‍🏭

We are working to engrain DEI in all we do; from recruiting to marketing and our core product development. With recruiting, we are making sure to be as equitable as possible by posting our open positions to job boards that target underrepresented communities, using inclusive language in our job descriptions, and diversifying our interviewing panels.

With marketing and go-to-market, we seek to amplify underrepresented voices in press and media work, from who we ask to join us on panels to who we promote in joint press.

With our core product, we seek to power every healthcare decision to be convenient, cost-effective, and high-quality in a way that is fair, equitable, and inclusive to all by ensuring that our product is distributed in the places that can help those patients who need it most. We create space to reflect on our position in tech and whether we are making the progress we hope to see in our monthly Ribbon Real Talks. These are team-based discussions where we select a topic related to DEI and discuss our own experiences, reactions, and our responsibility as a business. One recent example was a review and discussion of how healthcare predictive algorithms can drive racial bias that further indoctrinate the inequities in our healthcare system. We look to past mistakes that our industry has made to learn from them and make sure that we are building a future healthcare system that is fair, equitable, and inclusive to all.

As our teams grow, we are committed to finding new areas where we can contribute to meaningful progress for underrepresented people in tech.
