Comcast NBCUnites, our volunteering and social impact program, was created in 2019 to support the communities where we live and work and to provide employees an opportunity to get involved in a variety of causes. BUILDING & MAINTAINING A REPRESENTATIVE WORKFORCE👩🏾‍💼🧑🏽‍💻👩🏻‍💻

We stand for including everyone. We believe that a diverse, equitable and inclusive company is a more effective company, leading us to approach diversity as a driver for business growth and innovation.
Our Commitment to Advance Social Justice and Fight Inequality
Comcast NBCUniversal is developing a comprehensive, multiyear plan to allocate $100 million to fight injustice and inequality against any race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, or ability.
An update on our Commitment can be found here.

Comcast NBCUniversal has long been at the forefront of addressing digital inequities, connecting a cumulative total of more than 10 million low-income Americans to the Internet at home over the last decade through Internet Essentials — the nation’s largest and most comprehensive Internet adoption program for low-income families. Over the next ten years, we are accelerating that commitment through Project UP, our comprehensive initiative to address digital equity and help build a future of unlimited possibilities.

Backed by a $1 billion commitment to reach tens of millions of people, Project UP encompasses the programs and community partnerships across Comcast, NBCUniversal, and Sky that connect people to the Internet, advance economic mobility, and open doors for the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers, and creators.

Advancing Digital Equity
Our work to address digital inequity by improving technology access and growing digital skillsets is among the most consequential actions we can take to advance economic mobility.

Comcast has helped bring in-home broadband to ten million people since 2011 through our Internet Essentials offering, and more recently as part of the national Affordable Connectivity Program. Although connectivity is just one step in addressing digital inequity, Comcast is committed to making sure more people can harness the power that comes from having Internet access.

Through every aspect of our company, we embrace diversity of background, perspective, and experience. In 2021, we expanded our efforts to champion a culture of inclusion and advance a society where everyone has the opportunity to realize a future of limitless possibilities. To truly understand how we can drive inclusivity throughout the company, we hosted employee listening sessions and conducted interviews with leaders across every level of the company.

This work is a continuous journey for us and one that we’ve been able to build on quickly given our strong foundation and progress over the last decade. For updates on our continued progress and to better understand our commitment, we invite you to read a message from Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer Dalila Wilson-Scott, and explore a comprehensive list of the programs and initiatives underway as detailed below.

OUR SAFETY & SUPPORT PRACTICES FOR ALL EMPLOYEES🤝

Our rotating DE&I Employee Advisory Council, which consists of 24 employees across Divisions, Regions, and Business Units, works alongside the National DE&I Cable Leadership Council and provides advice, recommendations, and feedback, and also pilots and previews new products or policies that are the outcomes of our DE&I efforts across the company. Similar councils have formed at different levels of the company to inform and support our efforts as well, giving even more teammates a voice in shaping our plans to champion equity.

In 2021, we continued to invest in opportunities for employees to help steward our workplace inclusion strategy. Our external Corporate DE&I Advisory Council is comprised of national civil rights, academic, political, and business leaders from the Black and African American, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Latino, Indigenous People and Native American, LGBTQ communities, women, and people with disabilities. The council helps us ensure accountability and drive progress in critical DE&I focus areas.

Supporting One Another through Affinity Groups
Another way we provide our employees with visibility and support is through our company-wide Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). These are voluntary, employee-led networks dedicated to developing the careers of our employees, providing community volunteer opportunities, and building an inclusive and collaborative workplace.
Our nine ERGs include more than 35,000 members in over 225 chapters across Comcast NBCUniversal, engaging people at all levels of the organization, empowering employees to drive business results while supporting an inclusive, collaborative company culture.

To support the development of our ERG projects, programs, and events, we recently established ERG Elevate, an annual fund. Each ERG will receive $62,500 to elevate their work. Additionally, a new ERG governance structure includes two National Champions for each ERG to serve on a national advisory council responsible for driving our ERG strategic priorities. The new fund and structure will support crosse-enterprise collaboration and the development of a shared vision for our ERGs.

NBCUniversal’s Black Employee Network, also known as BEN, seeks to foster and grow a strong Black employee base at NBCUniversal whose members are focused on contributing their best – both personally and professionally – to the organization and to the community.

As evidenced by our many awards and accolades across the industry, which can be viewed here through Great Places To Work, 93 percent of employees say NBCU is a Great Place to Work as of August 2022!
Other than our robust suite of benefits, we have a variety of internal Career Tools, Learning & Development programs, Discounts & Perks, Health, Wellness, Retirement and Life benefits that provide incredibly value to our employees and their families.

OUR WORK TOWARDS PROGRESSING UNDERESTIMATED COMMUNITIES⬆️

We know that a diverse, equitable, and inclusive company is a more innovative and successful one. Across our workforce, products, and content, we embrace diversity of background, perspective, culture, and experience, and together with our partners, we are working to fight injustice and inequity against any race, ethnicity, gender or sexual identity, disability, or veteran status.

Committing $1B to Digital Equity Over the Next Decade – Through Project UP, we have committed $1 billion over the next 10 years to tens of millions of people from low-income families and connect them to the tools and resources they need to succeed in a digital world.

Free WiFi in 1,000 Community Centers Nationwide – We’ve launched a multi-year program to create more than 1,000 WiFi-connected “Lift Zones” in community centers nationwide, where students and adults, including veterans and seniors, can connect to the Internet at no cost and access the tools they need to complete homework, grow their skills, and apply for employment opportunities. We exceeded our plan to reach over 1,000 Lift Zones by the end of 2021 where students completed millions of hours of homework. This award-winning program is on track to open 250 more Lift Zones this year.
Public-Private Partnerships to Close the Digital Divide – We launched our new Internet Essentials Partnership Program, focused on enabling cities, school districts, and community-based organizations to connect large numbers of students to broadband access at home. To date, we’ve collaborated with hundreds of schools and organizations across the country.

Providing Internet Essentials for Free to Reach More Families – Internet Essentials has connected millions of low-income families to low-cost broadband at home since 2011. To support families at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, we offered 60 days of Internet Essentials free. We’ve also permanently increased speeds to 100 Mbps for all Internet Essentials customers. In addition, Comcast is participating in the federal government’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). The $30/month benefit can be applied to any tier of Xfinity Internet service including Internet Essentials Plus, which is free after the ACP credit is applied.

Internet Essentials Expands to Federal Pell Grant Eligible Students – To help advance digital equity for even more students and families, Internet Essentials has expanded eligibility to Federal Pell Grant recipients. In addition, Comcast pledged to donate $15 million worth of Internet service and equipment, including more than 25,000 laptops, to low-income students, seniors, veterans, and adults.
Internet Essentials and Goodwill Expand Workforce Development Efforts Nationwide – We partnered with Goodwill Industries International to provide digital skills and workforce development training for thousands of adults with low incomes at Goodwill locations across the United States. We also installed free WiFi access at the selected locations to enable people to search for and apply for jobs.

Contributed Over $100 Million to Support Digital Equity Partners – We’re partnering with national and local organizations that share our commitment to creating a more connected and equitable world. By supporting programs and initiatives that provide critical skills training to both kids and adults, we’re creating pathways to opportunities for low-income Americans, particularly in media, arts and culture, technology, and entrepreneurship. Over the past two years, we’ve contributed more than $100 million in cash to organizations advancing digital equity with intentional focus on building equitable outcomes and supporting partners that are led by and serve underrepresented communities.
