DE&I AT ELLEVATION ✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼🌈
Diversity means difference, whether that’s racial difference, socio-economic difference, gender difference, language difference, or difference of thought. There’s value in having a range of differences to check our own biases and blindspots. Here at Ellevation, it’s also important that our team reflects the diverse communities we serve.
At Ellevation, we believe that equity means fair or equal chances. We acknowledge that history has not always treated everyone equally and that certain groups have faced systemic barriers. As we commit to diversity, we also are committing to having practices and processes where everyone has a fair chance regardless of background.
Our end goal is not just to have diversity. It’s important that there’s an emphasis on inclusivity as well so that our differences are welcomed and valued. Inclusion has a significant impact on retention, satisfaction, and productivity. To see the true benefits of diversity, we believe inclusion and equity are a must. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the heart of our products, as we work to ensure the success for our nation’s underserved students.
OUR LEADERS CARE 💛💚💙
In addition to our affinity group DELL, which collaborates with our leadership to ensure our company is a safe space for all, we also conduct unconscious bias training company-wide to mitigate negative biases. Additionally, we’ve focused our diversity efforts to emphasize anti-racism, and are in the process of training a few team members to facilitate these conversations. And while we’re encouraged by our progress, we also know there’s more work to be done. So we’ve partnered with a DEI consultant to help guide us through this journey.
Through our generous benefit package, we are able to support employee health, happiness, and goals at the company. Whether it’s our paid leaves of absence, on-site gym, or unlimited paid-time off, our goal is to take care of the employee both in and out of the office. Additionally, our team enjoys a flexible schedule and a remote friendly environment to cater to a variety of needs. Weekly one-on-ones, quarterly performance discussions, pulse surveys, and stay talks are part of our regular cadence to ensure employees have a high level of satisfaction at Ellevation.
CHANGING THE INDUSTRY FOR THE BETTER 📣
Transparency and continuous learning are huge for us here at Ellevation. We’ve listened to our team members and have had some tough conversations. Out of these discussions, we know significant change is needed to truly see a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable tech industry. And we’re committed to doing our part. To start, we’re creating connections with organizations such as Black Tech Pipeline to source diverse talent. We’ve also partnered with local universities like Northeastern in hosting Black and Latinx students to offer them a glimpse at a career in tech. We’re also focused on promoting diverse talent internally, whether those are to leadership positions or otherwise. Through our newly established mentorship program, our goal is to provide more space and opportunity for underrepresented team members at Ellevation.
INTERVIEW PROCESS ☑️
Our hiring process is thorough, yet efficient. Our goal at the end of this process is that you are able to confidently say Ellevation is the place for you!
Step 1: 30 minute Zoom screen with People Operations (if necessary). This is a good opportunity for our People Operations team to get to know you briefly and for you to ask any questions you may have about the role or company.
Step 2: 30 minute Zoom screen with Hiring Manager. Oftentimes, but not always, the hiring manager would be your potential People Leader so this step allows you to learn more in-depth knowledge about the team and role.
Step 3: Pre-interview Exercise. This step allows you to apply your skills to a project or scenario you could encounter in the role so you’re able to gather more insight about a typical day-to-day. As a hiring team, we’re able to evaluate your skillset a bit further.
Step 4: 1st Round Interview. Typically conducted in our Boston office (temporarily via video due to the COVID-19 pandemic), you’ll get to meet and speak with more members of the team. We’ll ask you more specific questions about your background and experience as it relates to the role at hand. For our technical roles, you may be asked to complete a technical exercise during this step. This step can range anywhere from 90 minutes to two hours.
Step 5: Values Alignment Interview. We have six company values that define and drive our decisions and work at Ellevation. When looking to add new members to our team, it is our hope that candidates share and embody these values. In this step, we’ll ask you some questions to see how these values show up in your professional life. Additionally, you’ll get a chance to meet some new members of the company from different departments.
Step 6: Final Interview. Leadership at Ellevation is very hands-on in the hiring process. Therefore, you’ll round out our hiring process with a 30 minute conversation with the head of the department. Additionally, a follow-up conversation may be had with our CEO and/or our President.
